Daly rounded his opposite number with ease to give the away side an early lead.They continued to put pressure on the home side and kept them pinned in their own half. After a rampaging run by Glen Connolly up the middle of the field, the platform was set for the Portlaoise forwards to pick and go. It was left to Conor Doran to go over the line to leave the score 10-0 to Portlaoise.Again Portlaoise attacked and looked like scoring only for a loose pass that was intercepted by a Dundalk player to relieve the pressure.In the second half the home side increased the workrate. It wasn’t long before they were rewarded with a try but Portlaoise worked their way back up the field from the restart. After Dundalk gave away a penalty near their own line, Glen Connolly crashed over the line to restore the ten point lead.Dundalk were never going give up easily on their home patch. After Portlaoise missed a kick to touch, they worked their way down the field. Dundalk scored under the posts to claw back the deficit to two points.This gave Dundalk plenty of confidence, and only some superb defending stopped them short of the line. From the resultant scrum they crashed over to give the home side the lead for the first time in the game, 17-15 to Dundalk.Both teams felt they could win this match and gave everything they could. When Portlaoise were awarded a scrum in the Dundalk half, Sean Ward picked the ball and passed to Ciaran Culleton. He released Dylan Cahill and the winger raced to the corner to score what proved to be the winning score.
