SANTA CLARITA – Seventy top swim clubs began competing Wednesday in the Southern California Swimming Junior Olympics at Santa Clarita’s Aquatic Center. The competition will run through Sunday, with preliminaries held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and finals from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily. More than 1,000 swimmers from throughout California and Nevada are competing for gold medals in events ranging from 50-meter sprints to 1,500-meter long-distance races. The local Canyon Aquatic Club, the defending champion, is hosting the tournament.
